My Life With Psoriasis

Posts Tagged ‘life

Good day. Here’s a small introduction of myself. I’d rather not reveal my true identity to the public, so for now, you can call me Kay. I’m a 25 year old guy of Indian descent living in Selangor, Malaysia. I work a full time job and I seem like another regular person you’d probably see every other day. Except with one major difference. I have been diagnosed with psoriasis for the past 15 years.

I learnt about psoriasis at an early age, as my mother told me that my grandfather was diagnosed with the same condition many years back. Though my case isn’t as severe as my grandfather’s, I still find it a major problem in my day-to-day life. My condition affects my scalp, elbows and a small part of my legs.

Having psoriasis leaves a major dent in your self-confidence.  I still have issues with this disease when I go out in public, especially when it flares up suddenly and people keep asking me about my “dandruff” problem. I found it easier to say that I have “dandruff” rather than explain about psoriasis.

I have been using the same type of medication for the past 15 years. Talk about a loooonggg time. Sheeessh. I’ve been on Dermovate Cream and a type of oil (the pharmacist tells me it’s coconut oil) which I have to apply to the flakes 30 mins before I take my bath. Then I wash it down with a shampoo (Polytar Liquid) and then I gotta apply the Dermovate cream. The flakes disappear, then after a week or so, they reappear. Everytime my hair grows longer, it’s much harder to apply the cream. Each trip to the dermatologist costs me around RM200 for a 5 min consultation and the same medication. I now get the same medication from the pharmacy, but now they seem to have stopped selling the oil.

So after trying this one medication course and countless other herbal medicines (I’ll tell you about them next time), I stumbled upon the Olivenol Livin’ blogsite a few weeks back, and was elated to read about their offerings. I thought to myself, what have I got to lose. The best thing that could happen is that my psoriasis will be in control, and it ain’t a bad thing at all.

The following are the photos of my condition:

So here I am, waiting for the Olivenol product to be delivered. As soon as it is here, I promise to share more about the product. And I shall be praying to control this disease. Stay tuned for updates. 🙂
